Greece. (AGENCIALAVOZ.ORG) The President of Greece, Karolos Papoulias, and the rest of the politicians have lamented the deaths of three people in the general strike against government austerity plan Hellenic.
Papoulias said the country "has reached the edge" with the deaths. "Now it's in our hands if we take the leap into the void," said the head of state.
For his part, Minister for Protection of Citizens, Mihalis JrisojoĆdis, said that was "a black day for democracy."
Finance Minister of Greece, Giorgos Papaconstantinou said that the Government will step back in implementing the tough austerity measures promised in the eurozone and the International Monetary Fund.
"We are prepared to pay the heavy political cost," said Papaconstantinou to parliament during the debate on an austerity plan. "We will not give a single step back," he said before warning that other euro zone countries may face problems similar to the Greeks.
All opposition political parties condemned the attack firebombs against Marfin Egnatia Bank branch in central Athens, which caused the fire that caused the death by asphyxiation of two women and an official of the entity.
At least 45 people, including civilians and policemen, were injured and were being treated in local hospitals, that despite participating in the strike, attended the emergency
