Hague to pursue studies of Israel's offensive in Gaza arrested

Brussels. (AGENCIALAVOZ. ORG) The International Criminal Court is considering act against Israel's offensive on Gaza in January 2009, where more than 1,400 people died, including a high number of women and children. In an interview with REASON, the chief prosecutor of the court based in The Hague, Luis Moreno-Ocampo explained that "we are seeing if we can intervene", at the request of the Palestinian National Authority.

"We await the final report of the Palestinians and Israel have also offered the opportunity to explain," he says after his speech in Parliament. The Argentine said that the process is in a phase of "legal argument", as one part Palestinians indicate that the Oslo agreements give legal basis to request action because gives them jurisdiction over the international court that can actuar.Por the contrary, Israel insists it will not form a government. "The question is whether the Palestinians can apply [intervention], since only States may accept the jurisdiction" the court said. For now, the prosecutor declined to comment on whether the case would have to blame Israel, as reflected Goldstone report (approved by the UN in October 2009), and Hamas blamed Israel for war crimes during the military offensive in the Gaza Strip.
